What does Shih Tzu mean?
Ever wonder about the meaning behind the name? I've read up on this! Here is the scoop.

Shih Tzu (pronounced "sheed-zoo") means "lion" in Chinese and these lovely creatures are regarded as "little lion dogs". They are indeed regal and very proud.

The name also refers to the fact that they were bred to resemble a lion. The main objective was to get a dog with shorter legs, improved coat and smaller muzzle.

Its been said that the eunuchs that were in charge of the dogs, would actually dedicate a lot of time to grooming and caring for these dogs. Once they were done the Court artists would illustrate parchments with the breed's most impressive specimens focusing on the art of their grooming as well.

Lions are revered and adored in the Buddhist religion and they as well as the Shih Tzu are considered sacred animals.
