My first Shih Tzu was named Sony. We didn't even know he was a Shih Tzu, the breeder said he was a Maltese, but I was so curious about the breed I read and read and found the right breed. I suspect Sony was a mix of maltese and Shih Tzu, but I can't be sure after all this time.

The Finicky Shih Tzu

I've had many dogs throughout the years, as a matter of fact I´ve been surrounded by dogs my entire life.  There are pictures aplenty of me as a baby hanging on to a dog like it was a horse (poor dog!).  But there is one specific trait I have seen on my Shih Tzu dogs, maybe you have seen it on yours as well.

I used to joke that it was their "royal" blood that made them this way, but let me tell you, it can be a pain.  My lovable Archie de Michoki, now gone to the rainbow bridge, would not drink from his water dish if he saw even the tiniest speck of dust floating in the water.

He would not cross over a puddle of water either, nor go into the grass if it was wet, even if it was the morning dew.

Today I noticed my Chuck Norris having trouble with his food dish.  There was kibble in it so I thought "what's the problem".  He'd start to eat it then back down, did this about three times.  There was food in the dish, but you could see the bottom of it clearly.  As an experiment I thought to switch plates with another one that had the entire bottom covered with food.  Voila!  problem solved.

If you've noticed any of these or other little quirks, do not be frustrated, that's just part of what makes our furkids so special!
