The Shih Tzu : An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet

{mosimage}Beautiful work by Jo Ann White, a renowned figure in the Shih Tzu world.   She breeds and shows Shih Tzu and has written many articles for the AKC Gazette as well as being president of the American Shih Tzu Club.

The book itself is a jewel because of the wonderful and varied pictures of Shih Tzu dogs in all ages and states (short hair, long hair, pre-bath, etc.)

Jo Ann White really understands the Shih Tzu breed and their way of thought and she has been able to arrange the information accordingly.

Your Aging Shih Tzu

What does Shih Tzu mean?

Ever wonder about the meaning behind the name? I've read up on this! Here is the scoop.  Shih Tzu (pronounced "sheed-zoo") means "lion" in Chinese and these lovely creatures are regarded as "little lion dogs".

They are indeed regal and very proud. The name also refers to the fact that they were bred to resemble a lion.

Make a Habit of Brushing your Shih Tzu Daily

Some Shih Tzu have lovely silky hair that hardly ever needs brushing, others have more difficult hair. Learning this habit can keep you out of trouble either way. Just make sure you give your Shih Tzu a thorough brushing at least once a day.
